Girls and Taekwondo

Taekwondo isn’t just for boys, it is great for girls.
Taekwondo isn’t just for boys. In fact, more young girls are taking part in Taekwondo classes than ever before, and the reason is simple – Taekwondo helps young women create a self-image that is healthy, positive, and strong.
Have you ever noticed that confident young people seem to take part in more activities, respect themselves and others, and generally have that same respect returned? People aren’t born with confidence; it’s created through positive choices, personal reinforcement, and knowledge. Taekwondo can introduce and/or reinforce this confidence in young girls in a variety of ways.
Stop Bullying In Its Tracks – In schools today, it is estimated that up to 77 percent of students are bullied in one form or another. From grade school to high school, bullying can happen to anyone at anytime. Being bullied can lead to a host of emotional problems, including a very real sense of fear and lifelong emotional scars. Taekwondo teaches young girls real anti-bullying tactics that work, while instilling a sense of self-pride and self-worth. You can stop bullying in its tracks!
Teaching Self-Awareness – Taekwondo can also help you build a healthy body and strong mind, while teaching you how to be aware of your surroundings. Why is this so important? Sadly, physical assault by a known assailant is the number one cause of injury to women – 2 million, every year in the United States. Learning at an early age, to be cognizant of your environment, is a positive step towards self-awareness and personal strength.
Gain Peer Respect – Equally important, is a your ability to gain the respect of your peers – not only from other girls, but from boys as well. What young man isn’t going to be impressed by a young woman who knows martial arts? It’s crucial for young women to have a strong understanding, from an early age that they are deserving of respect from the opposite sex; that they are strong, capable and equal. Taekwondo effectively teaches and instills these vital core values, which helps young girls grow into emotionally and physically healthy young women.
Physical Self-Image – One of the toughest challenges facing many young women today is how they view themselves, physically. It isn’t easy to live up to Hollywood’s version of beauty and perfection, and you shouldn’t have to. Taekwondo helps create a strong body through physical fitness, a strong mind through discipline and respect, and a strong sense of self-acceptance. This sets you up to like who you are, be the best you can be, and have a positive physical self-image.
Just For Parents – As a parent, it can be tough competing with television, texting, and peer pressure for your child’s attention. Helping your daughter to build confidence in herself at an early age is a precious gift – one that will last her entire life.
(Oh, and did we leave out that it’s really fun?) See you in class!
